Yeah, that’s great … but I have a business to run!
I guess it should be said: Building relationships and being authentic drives revenue a lot better than hard selling. We have to make money to stay in business, just like you. It’s no secret that if people feel like you have an agenda (i.e. to sell them something), they’ll immediately distrust you. So how can you be honest and genuine, and build relationships without an agenda, when really we all know that the reason these relationships are formed at all is to sell each other products or services? Easy. It’s all about priorities. If your priority is to sell, then the relationships you make are the by-product of selling. If your priority is to build relationships, the by-product is selling—and it’s been proven that the latter is much more successful and personally fulfilling than the former. We view potential clients as real people just like us who want their business to do well, just like us. We want to help each other do that. If instead, we viewed clients as dollar signs with arms and legs, we wouldn’t have been in business for over 30 years.
